Meditation
Meditation is one of the commonest wellness techniques out there. It’s an intimate process that involves stillness. It relaxes you, eases your mind, and forces you to recenter. It can cause emotions to finally be released. But what happens when meditation isn’t for you? What if you aren’t feeling the benefit or what if you have trouble meditating itself?
Thankfully, there are many different alterniatvies to meditating. Stillness isn’t the only thing that helps people regulate their emotions, and some people may need to hear this since the practice of meditation is often involved in wellness pratices. They may feel that they aren’t going about regulating their emotions correctly because they don’t enjoy meditating and this is simply not the case.
Alternative Methods to Stillness
- Exercise
One alternative to meditation that doesn’t involve stillness is exercising. Going for a walk or a run around the neighborhood can have the same effects as meditation. It can relax, ease, and recenter as your body is up and running while experiencing nature. Exercising is a good way to calm yourself, and since there are many different ways to exercise it may be easier finding a method that works for you.
- Yoga
Yoga is another optimal alternative to meditating. It’s an exercise that involves physical movement while promoting breathing techniques and other meditation methods. Doing yoga may help one ground themselves in the present which would increase focus, mental health, and physical health.
- Puzzles/Brain Teasers
This is a method that is both fun and time consuming. In the process of doing all these puzzles, your mind will focus solely on these puzzles as you put your focus into something else. By challenging yourself you are actively working out your brain which can make for a satisfying feeling after completing the puzzle.
- Journaling
Journaling is yet another useful method. This promotes emotional regulation and emotional outpouring without stillness. For many it’s a great way to release feelings that were previously bottled up inside.
Finding Your Method
These are just some of the alternate methods to meditating. If none of these work for you, then it’s important that you keep trying to find what wellness and mindfulness method works for you. Don’t give up if you can’t find it immediately. Rather, take your time, as the mindfulness journey is something that should be taken one step at a time.
